Bieker 500-Year Forest

Sunshine 500-Year Forest

The Bieker 500-Year Forest lies on the southeast slopes of Cook Mountain in North Garden, Virginia, and borders the Ravens Hill 500-Year Forest. There are two 500YFF easements on the property: an overlay easement on an existing conservation easement held by the Albemarle County Easement program and a baseline no-cut easement.

The 97-acre forest is comprised by two primary forest types: transitional hardwoods on the lower elevations consisting of poplars, oaks, and hickories and truly special mature hardwoods exceeding 100 years old on the mountain slopes dominated by massive oaks, hickories, and maples. The forest is incredibly walkable, with almost no mid story, a hallmark sign of high-quality mature forest.
